Pustaka Mitra

Mission:

  • Help children and young adults living in rural areas of India to attain a better future by inspiring them to become lifelong readers and build an enriched mindset

Goal:

  • Launch in February 2023
  • By the end of 2025 establish 200 libraries in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states

Qualifying Schools:

  • Primary focus is to provide resources to schools in rural areas for grades from 1 to 10
  • Additionally, schools in under privileged areas, non-profit schools, tribal schools, orphan schools and special needs schools can also avail benefits from this initiative
  • Note: Corporate, for-profit and well-funded schools will not be eligible

Kind of Books Provided:

  • Story books based on region (English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, etc.)
  • Biographies
  • Novels
  • Magazines
  • Fiction and non-fiction books
  • Books on Indian epics, history and culture
  • Note: Text books, note books and school supplies will not be provided

Key Volunteers:

  • NRIVA will leverage assistance of below volunteers in rolling out the initiative in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. These individuals are already involved in similar projects
    • Dr. C. A. Prasad (State Convenor Education Sub-Committee, Jana Vignana Vedika)
    • Gottipati Malyadri (Sri Rama Rural Vidyasansthalu)
    • Suresh Kosaraju (Manchipustakam)
  • NRIVA is actively looking for motivated volunteers or organizations who can assist on this initiative in the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Please reach out to NRIVA if you know of any

How to Donate:

  • Option 1: NRIVA Identified School
    • NRIVA identifies and establishes the program with the respective school
    • Interested individuals can donate to this school
  • Option 2: Donor Identified School
    • Donor shall identify the school and get support from the school head master/management
    • Donor shall identify school representative who shall own and manage this task
    • NRIVA volunteer can help with provisioning required furniture and books
    • School representative shall manage the distribution of books to students and working with the publishers to replenish the books
    • Donor shall provide periodic updates to NRIVA regarding the launch and its operations thereafter

Initiative Management:

  • NRIVA will track the books, provide means of communication and promote the schools
  • NRIVA will work with these schools to engage the students by creating competitions, storytelling, dramatic interpretations, book clubs, volunteering opportunities and much more
